RELAIS LA SUVERA Pievescola - (SIENA) |
|
The
origins of La Suvera go back to the Middle Ages when it was a fortress
of the county of the Longobard Ardengheschi family. In 1507, Pope
Julius II received it for political reasons as a gift from the Republic
of Siena and he employed the ingenious Sienese architect Baldassarre
Peruzzi to transform the ancient fortress into a Renaissance Villa.
Today La Suvera still preserves the magnificence of the Renaissance
combined with the severity of the middle age. |
